What is Sublative RF Therapy?

Sublative RF therapy (the “Sublative RF”), which employs fractionated bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy, represents one of the more recent technological advancements available for those seeking non-surgical options to improve the appearance for their skin. It requires ablation and skin resurfacing as well as the treatment of facial wrinkles.

This treatment works on the principle of creating controlled thermal damage to the dermis (middle layer of skin) to stimulate wound healing which then leads to collagen production. More dermal tissue treated by the energy, whether laser or RF, leads to more collagen production. At the same time, less epidermal (top most layer of skin) tissue affected allows for faster healing and less complications.

The Sublative RF treatment affects more of the dermis than the epidermis; hence more collagen production, faster healing and safer treatments, as compared with traditional treatments that affect more of the epidermis. Also, the Sublative RF is appropriate for all skin types, including both lighter and darker skin.

What the treatment involves:

The Sublative RF treatment can be performed on any facial area around the eyes, mouth, cheeks and chin with minimal discomfort. Topical anaesthesia (numbing cream) may be used on sensitive areas. The treatment takes between 15 to 20 minutes.

After the treatment:

The treated area may show signs of redness and swelling for several hours immediately following the procedure. Small, pixilated dots on the surface of the skin, which will heal within one to three days, may appear. Some roughness may also be experienced as tiny scabs form during the healing process. Please do not pick at the scabs; allow the scabs to fall off naturally.

For the first 24 hours after your treatment, cleanse face with warm water only. Thereafter, cleansing the face twice daily with a nonabrasive non-comedogenic cleanser is recommended. Avoid using skin products with acidic content (AHA, BHA) for 1 week or until the scabs fall off. Moisturiser and sunscreen are highly recommended for at least the first 3 months. Light makeup can be worn within a day of the procedure.
