Dermal fillers can be used to treat age lines or for facial enhancement.
Among fillers, the most popular is hyaluronic fillers.
Dermal Fillers for Enhancement
Hyaluronic fillers can be used to augment the nose bridge, enhance lips giving a fuller appearance. The main advantage of filler augmentation is the enhancement of facial features naturally. The downtime of nasal (nose) bridge augmentation and lip augmentation is shorter compared to conventional rhinoplasty. Results are natural and can last from 6 to 12 months. It is also more cost-effective compared to surgery. The procedure is safe and has almost no downtime.
Dermal Fillers for Age Lines
Fillers are substances injected into the skin to fill up static lines or furrows. These are synthetic materials akin to the collagen in the skin. Fillers are inert materials that can plump up furrows with effects that last from 6 to 12 months.
What the treatment involves:
Treated area will be numbed with topical anaesthesia (numbing cream). Fillers are then injected using a very fine 27-to-30-gauge needle. During the treatment, patients may experience slight discomfort.
After the treatment:
There may be slight swelling (more common in lip augmentation). Bruising may also occur at the injection sites. However, swelling and bruising, if any, should resolve in 3 to 5 days’ time. To minimise bruising, patient is given a cold compress and advised to rest in the clinic for about 30 minutes. Patients are advised to avoid places of high heat (eg sauna) to lengthen the effect of fillers. For the first 2 weeks, patients are advised not to have facial massages which may alter the shape of the fillers. Patients should also avoid pressure on the filled areas (eg. do not sleep on the nose which received treatment).
